Take a guess what it is.

Literally, "Take a guess what it is." is grammatically wrong?

Just to give you a little context, after a teacher shows his/her students a box and says "There's something in this box. Take a guess what it is."

    is it correct or incorrect?

    Thanks!

Re: Take a guess what it is.

Does anyone want to take a guess at what all this has to do with grammar?

You need 'at' after 'take a guess'.
The above sentence is an example I borrowed from Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English.

I'd say it's probably correct in American.
BrE and AusE often use "have" instead of "take".
have a bath (BrE); take a bath (AmE)
    have a blood test
(BrE); take a blood test (AmE)
    ... lots more

"Have a guess what it is", or "Guess what it is" sound OK to me, so I suppose the version with "take" is also acceptable.
