    work one's way up to

In what contex could we this expression?

One comes to my mind. "She worked her way up to e-mailing me five times a day." What else?

"He worked his way up from the mail room to become president of the company." "She started as an instructor and worked her way up to full professor."

Re: work one's way up to

We will start with learning how to make scrambled eggs and toast and work our way up to standing rib roast and a soufflé.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
