    Question throttle the economy

I can't decide which verb goes best with the noun 'economy' if you want to say that it is to be slowed down. Is any one of the following acceptable? to throttle/to curb/drain the economy

    Re: throttle the economy

Are you suggesting that it's being deliberated slowed down by someone?

Otherwise, you can say it's cooling, slowing, stagnating... depending on how bad it is.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: throttle the economy

I understand that to throttle an engine is to slow it down by reducing the amount of fuel entering.

But I think most would think of the violent image of trying to choke something to death when they hear the word "throttle," so I would not recommend its use here.
