    Smile sentences

    (1) There were a flock of sheep grazing on the meadow.
    (2) There was a tattered shepherd named Tom sitting on a stone for a rest.

    I try to combine the above two sentences into one as below.

    There were a flock of sheep grazing on the meadow while a ragged-wearing shepherd named Tom sitting on a stone for a rest.

    Is it acceptable?

    A/The flock of sheep grazed in the meadow, while Tom, the tattered/raggedly dressed shepherd sat on a rock for a rest.
