    a show of hands

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

A show of hands seceded whether they considered the accused guilty or not guilty, and whether the known penalty for infringement of the camp code should be carried out. (Prichard’s "The Roaring Nineties”, chapter 3)

a show of hands = an open voting

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

Yes - a show of hands is an open vote.

Are you sure you have quoted it correctly? '...seceded' makes no sense in that context.

    Hi Rover KE,

    Thank you for your question.

    Sorry...It should be decided.

    I should be more careful.
