    "East Thirties"

    Hi

I am wondering, does "East Thirties" in Brooklyn, NYC refer to an area or a street or anything else?

    Thank you inadvance for help.

    NOT A TEACHER.
I think that is an area!(though your question has nothing to do with English discussion).
..." head to Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue in the upper 30s--from there, you can get a sense of why this area is so-named (our unofficial guess is that Park Avenue and 38th Street is about the highest point in these parts). Then walk the side streets in the East Thirties to see some really prime real estate, as well as consulates, hotels, and lots of other stuff you can't afford".

    Re: "East Thirties"

"East thirties" refers specifically to the street address (30th Street, 31st Street, etc, on the east side of the city), which automatically (to native New Yorkers) identifies the general area where one lives. Usually such a description is given as a matter of prestige: "He had a penthouse apartment in the East 50s" would indicate that that person lived in one of the most expensive/fashionable areas in Manhattan.
