Smile Question on "Apply ~ to"

I have a question on the use of "Apply ~ to".

Could you please tell me the correct sentence(s) among the following?

    A. We applied the technology to solve this problem.

    B. We applied the technology to solving this problem.

    C. We applied the technology in solving this problem.

Thank you for your help in advance.

Agree that B is clumsy if not completely incorrect.

I disagree about removing "the" however. "The technology" could be correct if you are talking about a specific technology that is clear from the context.

    For example:

"Russian scientists developed a chemical that turns fat into water. Many Australians are overweight. We applied the technology to solve this problem."

Not a great example, but do you agree that "the technology" could be correct, Gillnetter?
