    About

In The Redbook: A Manual on Legal Style, Bryan Garner writes:

"He cared almost as much about commas and capital letters as he did the law of federal courts ...."

Shouldn't there be another "about" after "did"?

    Thanks.

Not if the writer or speaker views the main verb 'cared about' as a unit:

    • ... as he cared about the law ...
    • ... as he did about the law ...

('did' either replaces 'cared about' OR 'did' is short for did care about)
