    pieces strong

    What does this mean?

    "it has a hand-assembled movement (100 pieces strong)". It's regarding a watch.

    Thanks.

It means that the movement contains 100 pieces.

Is an unusual (questionable?) use of 'strong' in this sense, which usually applies to a number of people: as Joni Mitchell put it, 'By the time we got to Woodstock we were half a million strong...'. I believe this use of 'strong' is associated with the noun 'strength' - the number of people in a particular group (like on board a ship - come to think of it, that's an apt image: a manager might say 'The department is not up to strength. It is nearly 2 years since we welcomed anyone on board'.

The 'movement' of a watch is the mechanism. This watch's mechanism (not including things like the case and the lens and the strap) had 100 pieces.
