    honeycombed

    Hello,

Can anyone explain the meaning of the verb "to honeycomb" in the following sentence? The author refers to East Germany and GDR.

"Around 2.3 million people - one in five adults - belonged to the Communist party, which honeycombed every workplace and neighborhood."

    Thank you very much.
