    put him on a breathalyzer

It's from a cop drama "I'll take him back to the shop and put him on a breathalyzer." ''Put on a dreathalyzer"=run a test for alcohol?

Yes. It`s a machine that can detect the amount of alcohol in your blood by analyzing your breath.

But road-side police would have a portable bag to blow into - also called a breathalyzer. One wouldn't be put on one of these. If you're put on something it's fixed - as in 'put him on an I/V drip'.

So the breathalyzer in this quote is the big one back at police HQ, whose readings are not so readily questionable by defence lawyers!
