in the twinkling of an eye

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

I wish someone would explain how it is that a dab of powder can in the twinkling of an eye reduce a woman’s nose from an unwieldy lump to a dear little thing that no one can deny is her best feature. (Maugham’s “The Sacred Flame”)

in the twinkling of an eye = in no time, in a moment, like winking

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V
