    That we might live

Lord, you who can turn the shadow of death into the light of a new day, as we gather to commend Dean into your hands, help us to wait upon thee with penitent hearts and remind us of he who died that we might live.

I couldn't get that part of this saying.Could you please explain me?

    Re: That we might live

Christ (that's the "He" in the sentence) died on the cross to bring everlasting life to His followers. He died so that we may be able to live.

The reference to "he who died" means Jesus. Are you familiar with Christian teachings? Jesus died SO THAT his followers could live. (I will not get into a religious discussion about whether there is life without belief, but that's the general idea.)

(If it had had the "so" in there, would it have been clear from the beginning?)

    Re: That we might live

Correct. There is an implied "so" in the sentence.

What is the source of this quotation?

It uses 'you' and 'thee' in the same sentence, and ought to say '...and remind us of him who died....'

    Re: That we might live

It's pretty hard to explain the Trinity of God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, but for this, it's God the Father and one who died is Jesus.
