    Is it OK for the "unhappy" to be isolated?

    This end-weight emphasizes the "unhappy".

    No i don't think it is acceptable. "Alone" becomes a dangling modifier. I believe that it will be more appropriate to say "She sat there alone, unhappy" . This way the emphasis remains.
