    Past Simple or Past Continuous?

Another question if you don't mind,

    the text goes like this:
Use Simple past and Past Continuous in each sentence:
My friend and I .............each other after we...............our last exam (hug/finish)

Tis is Brat. He ...................in his new t-shirt before we..................to a party (pose/go)

    What would you choose?

    Thanks again.

    Not a teacher.
Personally, I would use Past Simple everywhere - that's what first came to mind when I read the sentences. They are all completed actions, unless, of course, you want to place emphasis on duration of one of these actions - I was hugging, he was posing. But they sound weird to me, especially that 'hugging' thing. Let's wait for a comment from a native speaker.

You'd have to use the continuous first. I think the point of the question is that you can't use the continuous as in "after we were finishing" or "before we were going".
Yes, the simple past fits twice in both sentences, but the question asks you to make the correct judgement of where the continuous can't be used.
