Hi

Mike carefully picked his way up the rocky path to a dirt trail.

Does it mean that Mike was carefully walking along the rocky path until he reached a dirt trail.

"Dirt rail" is the same as "dirt road"?

Is "dirt trail" the same as "dirt road"? No. It's a dirt path. He didn't want to use 'path' twice in the same sentence.
