    dormant account

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

Not long afterwards, I shut down my account and transferred the business to another hitherto dormant account.

Standard precaution were taken to prevent fraudulent use of dormant accounts. (A. Hailey, "The Moneychangers")

dormant account = savings account showing no activity, other than posting of interest for a specified period

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

Nowadays it could refer to one of many different kinds of bank accounts besides savings. We have checking, money market, investment accounts, etc.
