Dear teachers...

Could you shed some light on this?

How do we call a table that contains the time in hours?

01 03 05

07 08 10
11 12 02

This table shows the _______ in which he has to send the email across the net.

a) time

b) times
c) timing

I go for a) time. Am I right? Or none of them work?

Thanks

It is possible that there have been no answers to this question because the figures do not appear to represent times. Is this the way in which they were printed in the original question? If so, I am puzzled.

Let me rephrase it:

Table 1

1.2 1.5 2.1 4.8 5.0

As one can see, table 1 has 5 numbers, in hours, where 1.5 hours = 1 hour and a half.

So, I would like to say that Table 1 shows the time(??) in which something happens. It could be in seconds, meaning, for example, the interval of time in which one blinks the eyes monitored by a time counter (or a stopwatch).

If so, how would we say it?

Table 1 shows the times in which I blinked my eyes when I was at the doctor's.

Thanks

I still having a hard time with this. Do you mean those numbers are the durations of the various trials?

Yes. Let me offer another example:

06 am - we get up
07 am - we have breakfast
08 am - we get to work
12 am - we have lunch

this table shows how we usually spend our time in the morning.

is it correct to say??

That table shows the times in which we spend our mornings.

Thanks

No.
That list shows the time at which certain activities take place. It shows when you do things.

The idea of "spending" time requires a duration.

If it was
Cooking and eating breakfast: 45 minutes
School: 3 hours
Lunch: 20 minutes
School: 3.5 hours

Then it would show the time you spent doing things.

If it was:
Day 1 breakfast: 7:30 am
Day 2 breakfast: 7:38 am
Day 3 breakfast: 8:20 am
Day 4 breakfast: 7:15 am

Those would show the TIMES you did things.

Formula one racing.

Mr Pilot drives the fastest car even known.

This table shows the ________ in which he completed each lap of the race.

00 min - start
45 min - lap 1
92 min - lap 2
135 min - lap 3
170 min - lap 4

Could we say 'times' once we are following with a stopwatch?

Thanks

The time is is for each lap, so I would use the singular time.

Thanks Barb, very much appreciated.

One last question...
I just can't see when 'times' would be used considering my example.

Could you offer an example showing this?
Once 'time' refer to each lap, how would we describe the whole table? 'times'?

Many thanks

Sure, "Lap Times" could be the title for the chart, with each row showing the time for each lap.
