    make much ado about something

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

I see how it is. But I think you and everybody else make too much ado about these things. (Th. Dreiser, The Genlus”)

make much ado about something = make a noise of occasion of something

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

No. 'Much ado' means 'a lot of fuss'.

In my area “make a noise = raise an uproar = raise a hullaballoo = cause a stir = make a fuss”
