    when is it necessary to use the article a before a noun? I am not sure which sentence is correct and why.

    It has a wide appeal among the youth
    It has wide appeal among the youth

    This meaning of "appeal" is not countable, so I would omit the "a". I would also omit "the". But I would keep "the" in a sentence like 'It has wide appeal among the youth of Scotland.
