    breakers (rocks) ahead

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentences?

Everybody believed that this eventually was going to be a strong national organization, but many feared the rocks which were ahead. (W. Du Bois, “Mansart Builds a School”)

Many of them are very unscrupulous ad would be glad to do you harm. There are rocks ahead, so be careful, and keep your eyes well open!

breakers (rocks) ahead = danger from the front, be careful of, take care! Watch out!!

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

    Re: breakers (rocks) ahead

Rocks ahead = danger up front.

    Breakers are waves, not rocks.

    breakers ahead = rocks ahead

Breakers ahead! - Ahead of the reefs! (message about the dangers - surf in the sea is usually a sign of underwater rocks)
