    at skyrocketing rates

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

The corruption component was developing at skyrocketing rates.

skyrocket = to cause to rise or increase abruptly and rapidly

at skyrocket rates = at hypertophic rates = at threatening rates

    Thank you for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

    You are close I think.

skyrocket = to increase very quickly, like a rocket going into the sky.
at skyrocketing rates = at rapidly increasing speed (not necessarily threatening, and I donít think hypertrophic fits here)

Where did you find this phrase? It sounds a bit strange to me.

    Hi Munch,

    Thank you for your kindness.

I have heard the strange expression in question on Russian Today.

    Regards,

    V.
