    Cool PP or Past Simple

    Hello!

In these cases, do we have to use the present perfect or the past simple? Can we use either?

-(I saw this in a film: A guy killed another guy's family some years ago. They now meet).
The victim tells the murderer : "you took/have taken everything from me. "

-This is about a sailor who won a race last year and he's going to take part in anoter race. The journalist says: you're going to use the same boat, have you adapted/did you adapt it?

    Thank you
    W

Either is OK. It depends on how the speaker views the situation at the moment of speaking: - he may be looking back at the past incident, or thinking of the present consequences.
