    cast aspersions on somebody

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right with my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

I didn’t mean to go casting aspersions on your way of life. (J. Jones, “Some Came Running”)

cast aspersions on somebody = slander, cast a slur on someone’s reputation

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V.

Yes, though 'slander' is a little strong. It's more like: making critical or unpleasant remarks.
