    what's the word?

could anybody tell me if there's a better word for deal used in a business meeting?
It's gonna start like this" before we start the..."
by better I mean a more formal one.

    Re: what's the word?

there are a few preliminary issues that should be discussed before they move on to the agenda...I just want to make sure if there's a word more formal than deal...or deal itself is formal enough to be used in such meetings....thank you.

Is the deal a topic on the agenda? Can you provide the whole sentence and fuller context?

So, are you saying that the deal has not yet been made? If that is the case, you could say "before we start the discussion" or "before we start the negotiations" or "before we finalize our agreement." I regret that the context is still not clear to me.

... or "before we start the main business..." The idea of "business" as a agenda item is formally recognized in the standard agenda item (to end a meeting) "AOB" - Any Other Business.

"Before we get down to business..."

    or

"Before we get to the business at hand...."
