    Difficult Question

    Dear All,

    Could anyone help me please answering this grammar question:

    Check the letter of the word or phrase that correctly completes the sentence:

    - Attempts ....... the face cards from playing cards have proved unsuccessful.

    A) abolishing B) to abolish

    Please give the reason for the chosen right answer.

    Ok. I'd choose "to abolish". However, I am confused as I think "abolishing" is also correct if we consider it as a reduction for the adjective clause: "that are abolishing" or "that abolish". Am I wrong?

    "To abolish" is correct. "At abolishing" would also be correct but just "abolishing" is not correct.
