    Rephrasing the sentence

I used spend time in front of the computer and explore new applications.

Can some one rephrase the above sentence? I am mid of writing my statement of purpose for a grad university and not able to figure out the a meaningful and interesting sentence to write.

    Thanks

Either 'used to' (if that's what you mean), or just 'spend'. Be careful though - 'spend' is present tense; is that what you mean? '[I]n front of the computer' is fine.

'...explore new applications' is OK; I think 'investigate' might collocate more strongly - but either would do. Informally, a software engineer who is trying out a new application might say 'I'm playing with X', but this wouldn't do for an SoP.
