    not/ambiguity

    Are these sentences correct:

1-He wasn't a real friend, not helping me when it was so easy for him to do so.

2-He wasn't a real friend, not standing by, watching me get beaten up without lifting a finger.

They have the same structure and yet the clause functions differently in them. In 1 he does not help me and in 2 he does stand by and watch me get beaten up.

I think both are correct but when they are read the intonation is different.

Their meaning would be dependent on their intonation. In writing they're not good sentences. In speech they might work.
I'd modify the second as above.
