    meaning

Some good has indeed come out of Nicholas's death. Seven Italians received Nicholas's heart, liver, .... Perhaps more impotrantly, a blow was struck for organ donation.
What is the meaning of the underlined part?

    Re: meaning

Itīs an idiom. Here is the meaning from The Free Dictionary:

    strike a blow for somebody/something
to help or support someone or something

    I agree with mara.
A lot of issues are conceptualised as "fights", eg. "the fight against drugs or against cancer". This is a fight to get more attention for organ donation. So any help in doing this is "striking a blow".
