    If someone says, "I can't be all things to all people!" they are complaining that other people expect too much from them. For example, your boss expects you to be a perfect employee, and to do things you aren't paid for; your spouse expects your undivided attention all the time; your children expect you to do their homework.

    "She's making herself sick; she tries to be all things to all people."
    "Obama needs to lift his popularity, but he can't be all things to all people." - He can't please everybody.
