    unvalidated school lesson?

    Dear Friends,

In Hungary if a student misses classes in school, he/she must bring written proof from doctors, parents, etc. to validate his/her absence. If there is no such proof, what do we call those lessons:

    1. unvalidated lesson?
    2. unproved lesson?
    3. ?

    Thank you very much.

    Csika

    Re: unvalidated school lesson?

On my old school reports they were called "unexplained absences", I think.

I have heard "unapproved absences" too, but that suggests to me that a student needs prior permission to stay home sick, which is not usually the case!

We used to call them unauthorised absences.

And here, it's unexcused. It stays on the books as unexcused until a note comes in from the parent.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
