In the early twenty century, newspapers were used to be the essential way of learning foreign countries. However, since television and internet became available to the world in 1990s, it's more convenient for citizens to receive messages from these multimedia. So newspaper is not the best way to learn a foreign culture anymore.
First and foremost newspapers don't include audible materials like the television did. As a result, the information it reports is less broader than TV programs. The culture in a foreign country doesn't limit on words and pictures but also fuse with music and language accents. Fortunately, television has the media to deliver these messages. People can enjoy live concerts, talk shows, soap opera through TV without traveling to other country. They can also understand certain elements of foreign custom by watching films even if they don't share the same language.
On the other hand, {newspaper bears no resemblance to internet on magnitude.} The power of newspaper in respect of delivering information to the reader is much inferior to that of internet. As everybody knows, a piece of newspaper contain no more than 20 papers that includes mostly irrelevant information such as advertisements. Internet, on the contrary, provides amount of information accurately and efficiently. As long as you type key works about the foreign country in the search engine, millions of pertinent links will appear to you and most relevant messages will be in the top three. Besides, billions of netizen express their opinions of current policy online. People can learn a lot about another country through those comments.
Finally, newspaper itself tends to discuss controversy and eye-catching issue for selling the papers rather than deliver the accurate impartial statement. But the true life in another country may not always about super stars or football players. So, those exaggerate reports could mislead foreigner audience by representing a biased opinion. For avoiding holding these opinions, people should travel to those foreign countries and talk to local people face to face.
In conclusion, newspaper as a printed press has certain limitations, which cause it couldn't be the best resources for learning another country. There is other multimedia such as television, and internet can do a better job on present a strange country than a piece of paper. If people are really curious about a strange country, maybe they should also use multimedia or visit here directly.
