    Correct usage of words

The IS 101 course at the university also enabled us to gel and bond with our classmates as we prepare for the presentation and case facilitation. Various ideas and opinions of what the case or presentation might be about open/opens up our own mindset as we hear about our friendsí opinions.

    1. Can 'gel' and 'bond' be used together?

    2. Should it be 'open' or 'opens'?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Correct usage of words

I would use gel or bond, but not both together.

"Open." The subject is "ideas and opinions," which is plural, so choose the plural form.

I agree with Soothing Dave on both points. I would like to add that, IMO, "open up our minds" works better than "open up our own mindsets."

    I agree with the others.
You need to be careful about mixed metaphors. What are you trying to say with 'gel' that isn't covered by 'bond', or vice versa? Using them both together gives the impression that the students are going to go into a semi-solid state and then fuse with each other.
