I really couldn't figure out the meaning of the following sentence (marked in blue) from a story. Could you please explain it to me? Thank you!
"No, no, I never eat anything for luncheon. Just a bite, I never want more than that, and I eat that more as an excuse for conversation than anything else."
Does the expression in blue mean that I eat one more bite simply because I want to prolong our conversation, I want to talk to you? Otherwise, if I don't eat one more, probably we will finish the meal pretty soon. Then, we can't talk anymore.
Is my understanding correct?
