What does "coiled against the sun" means here:
"Mr Adams - What devil language is that? Is it double Dutch coiled against the sun?"Thank you
It means coiled anti-clockwise. I've been trying to find out the origin of "double Dutch coiled against the sun" and failed.
I found the following sentence here: Index to A Vocabulary of the Anglo-Manx Dialect, 1924
Fishermen say when a rope fouls on deck and no gettin it cleam that it ‘s like Double Dutch coiled against the sun, coiled lef’ handy ye know.
I'm unable to draw any conclusions from it though.
Thanks a lot for your help!
