    There is more than one possible way, but I would say:

    x plus 1 squared equals x squared plus two x plus one.

    If there was any possible confusion, I might say:

    x plus 1 all squared equals x squared plus two x plus one.

    We use context when talking about maths - if it is not clear, we write it down or use more words to clarify.

    Yeah, I wrote that first but I realised if we were talking about quadratic equations, it should be obvious and I probably would not say it.

    It depends on context and the audience.

    Yeah - I'm not a mathematician, so still apply the context-free rules I was taught 40/50 years ago!
