    what is the difference between: substitute for/by/with - if these have a meaning

    "For" and "with" have the same meaning. I wouldn't use "by".

    I think they have different meanings. I think,

    substitute X for Y = substitute Y with X.

    I wouldn't use "by" either, but I think it's possible.
