    Question

In the following sentence is the underlined part a question? If yes, why there is no question mark? If no, what does it mean?
The first real expedition to Tikal was in 1848... and boy, did they ever get a surprise!

It's not a question that requires an answer, it's a rhetorical question. It doesn't need a question mark.

    Re: Question

I agree with bhaisahab. You may use an exclamation mark to close questions that are meant to convey extreme emotion.

What on earth are you doing! Stop!
