    write off/ cross out/

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right about my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentences?

It would bedangerous political folly to write off as insignificant the revival of nazi-type extremism in Germany.

    write off = disregard

We'll have to write off the arrangement if we can't find the money for it

    write off = cancel

Cross out the last two names, they're not members any more.

    cross out = cancel

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Re: write off/ cross out/

I wouldn't write off an arrangement if I couldn't raise the money. You write off debts when there's no hope of recovering the money- if you can't raise it, you haven't made a loss and I think writing off involves some loss.
