Would you tell me whether I am right about my interpretation of the expressions in bold in the following sentence?
ÖI gave up the idea of a circus, and concluded he was from an asylum. But we never came to an asylum Ė so I was up a stump Ö (M. Twain, ďA Connecticut Yankee in King Arthurís CourtĒ)
be up a stump = get confused, get into a tangle, donít know what to do
Thanks for your efforts.
