    a contract on his life

    Dear teachers,

Would you tell me whether I am right about my interpretation of the expression in bold in the following sentence?

The detective realized that the murder was not committed bythe victim's brother, but by a hit mantherewas a contract onhis life.

a contract on one’s life = an ordered murder

    Thanks for your efforts.

    Regards,

    V

Yes. Someone hired a hit man to commit the murder.
