    It's in the genes

In China, we usually say something is in somebody's genes.(inheritance)
I don't know how it is in the western countries.
Do native English speakers also say so?

We do, indeed. It could apply to anything from a desire to perform on stage to growing great vegetables to a desire to dominate the world.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
