meaning of "out" here in the sentence

    Dear all,

How should I understand "out" underlined in the sentence below?

    Thanks in advance.

In this chapter, I look at some of the contributing factors to the creation of the Great Depression, the early and abortive attempts to deal with it, the collapse and resurrection of the U.S. banking system, and how the consequences of the crippled economy played out in the first few years after the stock market crash.

Re: meaning of "out" here in the sentence

    Hi,

In this context 'out' means what were the results of the consequences of the crippled economy and how did they change the first few years post the crash.

    Thanks.

But why the word is used here. I am still a little confused.
I think the meaning is clear enough without "out" here.
So I am wondering if there is any implication....
