    Reduction of Relative Clauses

Charlie needs a friend who can play with him.

    When we say,

Charlie needs a friend to play with him, is the sentence reduced?

And how would you join THE FOLLOWING?

The author is world wide known for his books of crime. The teacher referred to him. His books are always sold out in all the bookstores.

    ThANKS.
