Thumbs up Still exists ethics in journalism?

The journalistic discussions tend to be polemics. Basically, these discussions are linked to capital. Ethical conflict between work and human values are constant and how the professional should handle with this? We must to consider the policy newspaper or the values comes first? Now a days, you believes that there's still exist ethics in journalism?

Re: Still exists ethics in journalism?

I think you should ask "still exists ethics at all?".
If you take a look at all kinds of media you will face the reality that ethical journalism no longer exists. Nowadays journalists, as any other worker, need to make some money and pay bills at the end of the month. Thinking like this, they can't afford to lose their jobs. So, they need to forget about their values and accept the company's ones.
Of course, we can't generalize. Around the world there are great professional, excellent journalists who are worried not with the money, but with the meaning of the profession.

    Jacque,

    (1) As an old man (or "senior citizen"), I love newspapers (the

"real" ones on paper -- not online).

    (2) Your title "Do ethics still exist in journalism?" is very

interesting. I should suggest that you delete (remove) the

adverb still. According to my (little) knowledge of the history of

journalism, the ethics of journalism have never been higher. In other

words, the "good old days" were not so good.

    (3) Now may I have permission to suggest a few minor changes to

    your fine paragraph:

Journalistic discussions tend to be controversial. Basically, these

discussions are linked to capital. How should the professional

journalist handle the eternal conflict between one's work and

human values? Which should come first: the policies of the

journalist's newspaper or the goals of human values? What

role should and do ethics play in today's media-saturated

    environment?

    *****

I wish you the best of luck in your profession as an ethical

journalist. (I hear that print newspapers are doing very well in

your country. Here in the United States, most of them are

    in very bad financial shape.)

    Thank you
