Smile can we say the crowd has wind down?

Is it right if we say "until the crowd has wind down"?
if it's not, what can we use to say that the people in line were fewer?

"until the crowd has wound down.

You need the past participle wound in the past perfect tense.

I think of something "winding down" as it relates to an activity or time and not as applicable to a crowd. How about "thinned out" or "dwindled down"?

I see [to] wind up as an idiom meaning to excite. As in, "The team was wound up after the ball game, but they wound down on the ride home."
