Question "And that is how we will take this franchise global."?

This is a line in an episode of a TV series "Miranda".Miranda runs a joke shop and hires her friend Stevie to manage it.What does "take this franchise global " mean exactly ?Is it like opening chain stores worldwide?Or is it something like exploring the world market? Or something else.Any help will be much appreciated.
