    Movie Quotes

    Hello,

Could you tell me please what is the meaning of 'keep a look out' here in this sentence? Does it mean that somebody should pay attention to something and be attentive? It's from ''Some like it hot"-Monro's quotes.

"You better keep a look out."

I found in the dictionary 'to keep somebody or something (out of something.)" Is it it's meaning?

    -- Not a teacher --

    Hello sondra,
I think it was "keep the lookout", which means "keep watch", look if anyone is coming.

    Re: Movie Quotes

Chevalier is correct. "Keep a lookout" means to stand guard, to be on alert and watch out. The phrase is commonly used in everything from the military("Keep a lookout on Hill number 53") to high school students ("I'm going to sneak a cigarette in the bathroom - can you please keep a lookout and warn me if any teachers are nearby?")
