    future continous and present progressive

    Hi there,

    Thanks a lot.

Is no. 2 also arrangement? If yes, then what is the difference? Or is no. 2 a causal future? What does it mean by 'causal future'?

    1. I am having a meeting with Ann next Monday. (arrangement)
    2. I will be have a meeting with Ann next Monday.

Re: future continous and present progressive

Simon, we gave a few pointers on another thread future continous. I also provided there a link to a site where more information was given. If you read that paper and come back with specific questions on points you don't understand, we'll be happy to help.

By the way, it was 'casual' future.

Also, be aware that 'progressive' and 'continuous' mean the same thing in grammar. Use one or the other.

I don't understand why future continous is a casual future.

Take the trouble to read this article http://www.gramorak.com/Articles/Future.pdf, especially page 7.

Then come back with specific questions.

Re: future continous and present progressive

    hi there,
    Thanks so much.
In terms of certainty, which one (1 or 2) is more certain in tone?

    1. I am having a meeting with Ann next Monday. (arrangement)
    2. I will be have a meeting with Ann next Monday.

    tks

Re: future continous and present progressive

So you read the article and thought carefully about it in under seven minutes, and then came back with the same question?

I really don't think I can help you.

Re: future continous and present progressive

IMO, in both cases there is a high degree of certainty, so trying to distinguish the choice of forms solely through the perspective of certainty won't get to the core of the difference. In the first, I am informing you of an arrangement. In the second, I am informing you of a future state of affairs. The first could finish there, but the second is more likely to continue- so I will be able to tell her...

    2. Is there any difference in meaings if 'will' replaces 'will be using'?

Why do you think it's being used?
