    color words

Out of my curiosity, will you teach these phrases to your students?
    1. be in the black.
    2. be in the red.
    3. be in black and white
    4. red herring
    5. out of the blue

    Thank you.

    Re: color words

I'm not a teacher so I won't teach these to anyone, but if you're looking for a sense of how often they are used, 1 and 2 relate to businesses. If you are teaching business English, they would be useful.

If you are teaching how to write or enjoy reading crime fiction, then 4 makes sense to learn. Otherwise, it's just not that common.

I've never used 3. We talk about seeing things in black and white to mean being a person of absolutes -- all this, or all that, but nothing in between.

On the other hand, 5 is pretty common.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
